Now it's getting interesting! This is the (green) drywall screwed onto the bathroom barrel
ceiling. Is this too cool or what? |

There are curves everywhere in the Rat House. Here is a detail of the 1st bedroom arch and cove ceiling. We duplicated all the original lath and plaster arches and curves using sheetrock. 5/8" sheetrock actually. It is heavy and strong stuff. |

And we even added some arches too. Here's my TV-alcove in
the 1st bedroom arched out with its bullnose corner bead.
You can also see how the cove ceiling works. We'll keep on with the drywall mud to smooth out the lines where we scored the back of the drywall to make it bend so that it will be a nice smooth curve.
| Bedroom #2 also gets the same cove ceiling as it was before. This archway was also here previously too. |

Bedroom #3 did not have cove ceilings previously. This room will be an office/study so big huge crown moulding will be the gig here. Oh yeah, by the way, Inspector Chris came by and we passed the Drywall Fastening inspection with no problem. He wrote on the inspection sheet, "Wow it's starting to look more like a real house now, not a Rat House!"
Here again is the view looking from the dining room into the
kitchen and our new arch. Remember there was just a little door between
these two rooms before.
Here is how the hallway is coming along.
View from the back to the front.
And view from the front to the back.
Paco uses the larger corner trowel to apply the second layer of mud to the corner joint.
In case you're wondering, the ceiling corners will just get caulked as there will be crown moulding used throughout covering the joints.
The first thing you see when you walk in are the complex arches and my nifty new display alcoves flanking the entrance to the living room. Aren't they too cool?
The first layer of mud is up. You can see it ain't all dry
yet...
Drywall mud is pretty cheap actually. Only $8.45 for a five gallon tub. We're using Hamilton's joint Compound. I think we have consumed about eight or ten buckets so far.

The front entryway to the house is so frikkin' cool. It sets the stage... |
Arch details...
Doesn't that bullnose corner bead work great?
Can you tell I think this arch stuff is way nifty?
And check out the living room built-in shelving
alcoves...
Here the bullnose and metal lath is up in the alcove corner scrolls. I did get a big gloppy 1st layer of mud on it on Saturday. Mud-sand-mud-sand... it is like sculpture.
It's that custom stuff that makes these older Spanish/craftsman homes so unique. We're having fun.
